Solo performance with glass bowl, water, and electronics.

Deluge is centered on a simple and striking physical action: I immerse my head in a bowl of water. What begins as something close to a ritual, with symbolic actions around the clear glass bowl staged as a sacred object, quickly gives way to chaos. The intention is to overwhelm the audience’s senses through a sustained physical performance punctuated by the abrupt and intense silence of holding my breath until exhaustion.

Central to the work is the ambiguity between two extreme visceral emotions, laughter and terror. The image of a person repeatedly submerging their head is both absurd and alarming: audiences laugh out loud one moment and hold their breath in kinesthetic empathy the next.
